The YMCA National Judicial Competition (NJC) is an annual competition for high school student participants in the model judicial components – Appellate Court and Mock Trial – of the YMCA Youth and Government program. NJC provides opportunities to meet participants from across the country who share a passion for Youth and Government and the judicial system. The competitions take place in St. Paul, Minnesota, at the Minnesota State Capitol Complex & Capitol, Judicial Center and other facilities near by the conference hotel.
Missouri students participate in the Appellate Court at NJC in teams of two students. All Appellate Teams will try both sides of the case and serve as justices throughout the competition.

Cost
The 2024 NJC program fee is $500 per student, plus the cost of transportation. Our method of transportation will be determined based on the size of our delegation. Applicants should plan for an additional $300 to $400 in transportation costs. The program fee includes lodging, two meals, and program expenses for the entire week. Students need to bring funds to cover additional meals and incidentals throughout the conference.
Trial Teams and Case
Once the delegation is selected, students will be placed into trial teams of two students and begin preparing for the competition. Students are expected to conduct research and trial preparation over the summer, attend Zoom trainings and delegation meetings, and participate in other sessions intended to best prepare all for NJC. Dates for these will be determined once the delegation is selected.
