New for 2020, Missouri YMCA Youth and Government (YAG) will offer middle school students a new program opportunity.
In March, YAG will host the first-ever Middle School State Conference in Jefferson City. This new program will be legislative-focused with proposals written by students prior to the State Conference on specific issues they are passionate about.
Our goal is for the youth at this conference is:
- To be educated about issues
- Seek input on policy issues
- Empower them to advocate for specific issues they are passionate about
- Be active in their communities and state on these issues
For 2020, YAG has grant funding from the Missouri Convergence Partnership (MCP) to assist with the launching of this program. MCP has been laying the groundwork for creating policies and environments that promote healthy eating and active living throughout the state. With MCP’s support, we have been able to lower the program fee for all students and we would like for each participating delegation to write 2-3 additional proposals as a delegation about Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) policy.
